I'm glad the show went well. Can't wait until you guys come back to MA and RI. How's it out west compared to Worcester?

By the way, touch the waitress sounds hilarious. I can't wait to try haha.
  • joshua Lyford · 10 months ago
haha dude these days shows are usually pretty rad. hah see you there!
  • mifit5 · 10 months ago
Ha i'm so gonna try this!!! : ]
  • joshua Lyford · 10 months ago
gotta be in it to win it
  • Carl · 10 months ago
Maybe I'm just being sensitive, but that seems like kind of a shitty thing to encourage doing to a waitress who's just doing her job and doesn't necessarily want to be harassed by her customers.

I'm glad the tour's going well though!
  • joshua Lyford · 10 months ago
definately being overly sensitive bro. I used to work a very similar job, and theres obviously a fine line between being a dick and having fun. she was our buddy and we hung out all night she laughed it off, as its not every day you have 800 kids in a dennys trying to have fun. wasn't a typical eating dinner with your parents moment ya know! i wasnt harrassing anybody she couldve told me to stop and as you mightve read thats how you lose the game. Im actually a pretty accutely sensitive guy, i would never be into "harrassing a waitress" if theres was a sign she was miserable about it. and the tours going very well thank you.
  • B · 10 months ago
you srsly think she would have said something? when your group was probably her only chance for a tip that night? that game is bullshit.
  • joshua Lyford · 10 months ago
i think everyone is confused about the dennys thing here. dennys contacts the tour and arrange for all the bands to come to dennys, its a part of the tour. we didnt show up at dennys like a normal trip to a restauraunt its more like a meet and great setup. she doesnt lose out on tips for this, and she was in on the joke, so dont get super mad, we didnt show up to a dennys acting like shitheads, they ask us to come to bring the kids from the show its announced onstage and its like an event.
  • B · 10 months ago
if she was waiting on a group that big, no matter what the official setup, she had no or very few other tables that night. so what you're saying is that she was losing out on tips already and you decided that you needed to harass her? it's still bullshit.
  • joshua Lyford · 10 months ago
haha no thats not what im saying, were you there? there was a line outside. it wasnt a group that big, it was every table filled with paying customers. and more waiting to get in, everyone was horsing around and having fun, from the kids, to the bands, to the waitresses. like i said im not into being an asshole, this wasnt that case.
  • B · 10 months ago
trust me, even if it was tables of paying customers, if it was mostly kids from the show she got stiffed on her tips for the night.
  • joshua Lyford · 10 months ago
ill trust you that you msy be right on that, but that means you have to take my word that it was in good taste.
  • Carl · 10 months ago
My issue is less with your specific actions, because I wasn't there and I believe you that she was in on it, and more that you're encouraging others to do the same thing who might not be as attentive as to whether they're making someone uncomfortable who isn't really in a position to say something about it. It just seems like it could lead all too easily to actual harassment if other people are dickbags about it.
  • joshua Lyford · 10 months ago
haha, honestly i see your point. if juggalos were to play it maybe it would get too savage. but you know what, i would never do anything that was borderline like that, so everyone will just have to take my word that it wasnt. otherwise, i started this blog to just say wahts up, if you dont want to know what bands do, i dont blame you jsut dont come to my blog because it gets real. and we're jsut normal dudes who have to make the best of situations like that, and im going to be honest about what happens. simple as that
  • Carl · 10 months ago
For sure, I love reading your blog and I'm stoked to see you guys when you roll through town, but this post just made me a little uncomfortable and I felt I needed to say something. I don't think you're running around molesting people all over the place or anything.
  • joshua Lyford · 10 months ago
well i took it down. ill be sure to keep everything more g rated in the future. sorry everyone.
  • A. · 10 months ago
It's cool, man. Just think about the other side once in a while. I'm sure you're an awesome dude, but I've been in situations at your shows where your fans have made me, as a woman, uncomfortable, to the point where I've paid for an extra ticket to this tour for a friend to come with me to watch my back. It's hard for females sometimes, when we're generally smaller and outnumbered, you know?
  • joshua Lyford · 10 months ago
wait i just had to reread this, our fans make you feel uncomfortable? please go into more detail, and if youre not being facetious, call the police no one should make you feel uncomfortable, but obviously i dont want to hear that "all of our fans are making you uncomfortable"
  • A. · 10 months ago
Oh, it's not all of them! Last April in Fort Lauderdale, I was standing waiting for you guys to come on and the group of guys standing around me (all of whom were about twice my size) started saying uncomfortable shit to me and hitting on me. Luckily, some guys I didn't know came over and told them to fuck off, but it wasn't the best situation to be in, especially when you can't always know who's going to be the one to start shit when you tell them to fuck off.
  • C. · 10 months ago
it's a bummer that you feel like this is about censoring your blog and not about being a little more considerate towards fellow human beings.
  • joshua Lyford · 10 months ago
we are all bummers. i bummed you out, then you bummed me out. its a vicious cycle. who shall be bummed next?
  • unkilled_hydra · 10 months ago
i'm glad you had fun, but it seems really shitty to harass the chick who is depending on your tips to make rent this month. of course you aren't gonna get called out, she needs that money. stop being a dick.
  • cl · 10 months ago
agreed, she could lose her job for talking back to customers. please stop doing that and don't encourage others to do it. touching people uninvited (especially those you are paying to perform a service) is really uncool.
  • joshua Lyford · 10 months ago

okay, so say i give you the benefit of the doubt on this one instance (i don't believe you for a minute, but we'll roll with it), i still think harassing your waitress like that is a shitty thing to do in general and it is especially shitty to encourage other people to harrass their waitresses outside that context.

uninvited touching = harassment, no matter how much 'fun' she seemed to be having. being 'polite' is part of the job description, and in this economic climate, no one is going to make a fuss that might mean reduced hours or loosing a job.
  • A. · 10 months ago
Dude, I love you and am totally looking forward to seeing you guys when you get here on the tour, but that was uncool. Touching people without their okay is way not okay.
  • joshua Lyford · 10 months ago

No, I get that, but seriously, she really can't call you out if she wants to keep her job, especially if it's something specially arranged by corporate. Even if you thought she was okay with it, she still might not've been and so it's not the best game to play, you know?
  • damen · 10 months ago
just because the company asks you to come doesn't give you license to cross a boundary that the waitress might personally not want crossed. and the situation would definitely be entirely different for the fans you're encouraging to try it.
  • joshua Lyford · 10 months ago
haha what the fuck? i wasnt grabbing tits, get your mind out of that realm. it was lighthearted, not malicious like that. in a world where people act as fucked up to each other every day, im surprised people are actng so harshly towards something that isnt indictive or shitty, i realize now that i obviously didnt convey wat was goign on properly but believe me it wasnt like that.
  • C. · 10 months ago
regardless of the setup, she's the waitress, you're the customer, that's potential sexual harassment, and it's rude (at the very least) to touch strangers uninvited. you might think you know where the line is, but sorry to say, you're not a girl, and yes, it is different. i don't mean for you to feel to attacked by my comment, i hope you really think about it. I don't believe you meant any harm, but these sorts of things can get out of hand and ugly really quickly.
  • Jake · 10 months ago
To the people above who have such a serious issue with the game: Dont play it, simple as that. I generally never tip waitresses, but in this case, I would for putting up with me and everyone else.

I plan on going out to a restaurant like Denny's soon, so I'll be sure to try it then.

    Any other great FYS games?

btw, what were the set lengths for everyone on TOC? i'm super stoked on not having to pay 28.50 for a ticket anymore, I got a pair of those "reporter" tickets and whatnot. I'm gonna guess an hour for Thursday, 45 for Horizon, and 35 for FYS? Regardless, I just hope Maniac and Men/Mars gets played.
  • joshua Lyford · 10 months ago
haha we have a few pretty good ones, most of them involve touching each other, or waking someone up in horrible ways. probably the lamest one is for long drives we play "i packed my trunk and in it i put"
thursday plays for like an hour, and fys/ptv/bmth rotate direct support for 30 minutes.
  • Jake · 10 months ago
whattttttttttt, since when can PTV step on your guys (or BMTH for that matter) level? I dont understand Kevin Lyman sometimes, booking "artists" like Jeffree Star and Millionaires and brokenCYDE for Warped, gimme a break. But yeah, you should totally ask Oliver about the DJ Rossstar chat, I totally asked a bunch of retarded questions and stuff, I even got DJ ask Tucker to ask Oliver why BMTH ran off to their bus after a 45 minute headlining set (we all know the answer, I've just never heard of a headliner playing for less than an hour), it was good. Oh yeah, some girl flashed the cam when she was on stickam (after Oliver asked the girls to do it a million times), and everyone missed it, hah.
  • B · 10 months ago
why the fuck don't you tip waitresses? you do realize that in most states tipped workers are making less than minimum wage, because it's assumed that they'll make the difference up in tips? unless she ignored you, fucked up your order, or poured your coffee in your lap, that's an asshole move.
  • Jake · 10 months ago
  • june · 10 months ago
Jake, i'm going to have to politely disagree with you about "the game." I assume you aren't a girl, so let me enlighten you: unsolicited touching is not cool. Don't do it, it will most likely make your waitress uncomfortable or make her wish she was off duty so she could knee you in the balls.
  • WhoaThere · 10 months ago
This game is a shitty thing to do, and of course you don't see anything wrong. Google male privilege and read up on it.

It's a bad economy. No one wants to lose tip money by pissing off the group paying, or possibly their job because they spoke up and it's easier for the manager to let someone who may make trouble with the customers.

But it's more than that. Women are conditioned to be wary of large groups of rowdy men. Don't make waves or it could get worse. You're a big group of rowdy guys and she had no way of knowing if her saying something would escalate things. So you touch her, she smiles nervously and pretends you aren't treating her body like a game.

But hey, it's all in fun right. You're the good guys. She's just some nobody waitress who should have been thrilled to be touched by boys with guitars. Right?

It's disgusting that you don't understand what you did wrong.
  • joshua Lyford · 10 months ago
this is awesome, youre totally right. my guitar is a sexual weapon. we have a note taped to our drawer that says "anna" from dennys, had a blast. think everyones trying to draw too many parallels from hanigng out with people acting like normal people and something way gnarlier. Obviously we dont condone sexual harrassment. this wasn't sexual, it was hilarious. also, i always tip my waitress. just incase anyone was curious. and i like the group of rowdy guys part. this wasnt like a scene from a movie, there was security there. but hey either way, i am an asshole sometimes.
  • unkilled_hydra · 10 months ago
thanks for taking it down, i really appreciate it. i'm glad there is one less person encouraging sexual harassment of waitresses. :) next time you're in town, i'll totally come say hi!
